Context

  • Armed conflicts around the world are becoming more protracted, and in some cases, more intense. Climate change compounds conflict impacts in many parts of the world, leading to extensive impacts on civilians and the environment.

Juliane research

  •  My research focuses on such effects,
    • to understand how conflict and climate compound each other,
    • how impacts can reverberate across time and space to cause long-term civilian harm, and
    • how communities and humanitarian practitioners can act to mitigate this harm.

Specific areas of research include:

  • - Water management and service provison under conditions of armed conflict
  • Conflict impacts on civilian infrastructure and the environment
  • Climate adaptation and anticipatory action in fragile and conflict-affected settings
  • Anticipation of the humanitarian impacts of armed conflict
  • Climate security
